What You'll Do:

As a Lead Landscape Gardener, you will carry out our Mission of Love by assisting the Landscape Supervisor with management and direction of all landscape staff. Plans, develops and implements works schedules and assignments. Leads and directs seasonal staff. Coordinates the care of plants (trees, shrubs, perennials & annuals), turf, walks, exterior furnishings and architectural elements. The Lead Landscape Gardener primarily works independently, coordinating with the Landscape Supervisor as needed, to maintain the overall appearance of Masonic Village campus landscape. 

Our Lead Landscape Gardener is responsible for the following:

  • Responsible for understanding the proper use and handling of pesticides to include chemical mixtures, ratios, rates and application processes. Proper PPE to be worn at all times.
  • Lead landscape team in daily and weekly activities concerning the proper maintenance of the grounds.
  • Capable of assessing, evaluating and correcting plant growth issues.
  • Responsible for the overall health, condition, visual impact and accessibility of the designated landscape area/zone for all four seasons.
  • Responsible for snow removal and storm damage clean up on an emergency on call basis.
  • Responsible for proper use and care of mowers, hand tools, utility vehicles, trucks and trailers used in daily work.
  • Maintains professional growth and development by attending educational, technical and training programs, seminars and courses. Stays current with standards and requirements of regulatory agencies, such as Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Motor Vehicles, Department of Environmental Protection and OSHA, as they relate to the operation and maintenance of the Masonic Village fleet.
  • Maintains an accurate record of time for cost distribution and payroll.
  • Assist Landscape Supervisor with personnel management and resident landscape issues.

What You Definitely Have:

  • High School degree required, with Vocational Tech program and/or field related certifications preferred.
  • Valid Pennsylvania drivers license.
  • Two or more years experience in related field.
  • Ability to acquire a Pennsylvania commercial applicators license within two years.
  • Good written, oral, organizational and computer skills.
  • Experience with personnel management and customer relations.
  • Ability to operate utility vehicles,mowers and trucks.
  • Ability to work independently.
